EN Arise, be enlightened, O Jerusalem: for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon you.
^1
2
EN For behold darkness shall cover the earth, and a mist the people: but the Lord shall arise upon you, and his glory shall be seen upon you.
^2
3
LA Et ambulabunt gentes in lumine tuo, et reges in splendore ortus tui.
EN And the Gentiles shall walk in your light, and kings in the brightness of your rising.
^3
4
EN Lift up your eyes round about, and see: all these are gathered together, they have come to you: your sons shall come from afar, and your daughters shall rise up at your side.
^4
5
LA Tunc videbis, et afflues; mirabitur et dilatabitur cor tuum: quando conversa fuerit ad te multitudo maris; fortitudo gentium venerit tibi.
EN Then shall you see, and abound, and your heart shall wonder and be enlarged, when the multitude of the sea shall be converted to you, the strength of the Gentiles shall come to you.
^5
6
EN The multitude of camels shall cover you, the dromedaries of Madian and Epha: all they from Saba shall come, bringing gold and frankincense: and showing forth praise to the Lord.
^6
7
LA Omne pecus Cedar congregabitur tibi; arietes Nabaioth ministrabunt tibi: offerentur super placabili altari meo, et domum majestatis meæ glorificabo.
EN All the flocks of Cedar shall be gathered together unto you, the rams of Nabaioth shall minister to you: they shall be offered upon my acceptable altar, and I will glorify the house of my majesty.
^7
8
EN Who are these, that fly as clouds, and as doves to their windows?
^8
9
EN For, the islands wait for me, and the ships of the sea in the beginning: that I may bring your sons from afar: their silver, and their gold with them, to the name of the Lord your God, and to the Holy One of Israel, because he has glorified you.
^9
10
LA Et ædificabunt filii peregrinorum muros tuos, et reges eorum ministrabunt tibi; in indignatione enim mea percussi te, et in reconciliatione mea misertus sum tui.
EN And the children of strangers shall build up your walls, and their kings shall minister to you: for in my wrath have I struck you, and in my reconciliation have I had mercy upon you.
^10
11
EN And your gates shall be open continually: they shall not be shut day nor night, that the strength of the Gentiles may be brought to you, and their kings may be brought.
^11
12
EN For the nation and the kingdom that will not serve you, shall perish: and the Gentiles shall be wasted with desolation.
^12
13
EN The glory of Libanus shall come to you, the fir tree, and the box tree, and the pine tree together, to beautify the place of my sanctuary: and I will glorify the place of my feet.
^13
14
EN And the children of them that afflict you, shall come bowing down to you, and all that slandered you shall worship the steps of your feet, and shall call you the city of the Lord, the Sion of the Holy One of Israel.
^14
15
EN Because you were forsaken, and hated, and there was none that passed through you, I will make you to be an everlasting glory, a joy unto generation and generation:
^15
16
EN And you shall suck the milk of the Gentiles, and you shall be nursed with the breasts of kings: and you shall know that I am the Lord your Saviour, and your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.
^16
17
EN For brass I will bring gold, and for iron I will bring silver: and for wood brass, and for stones iron: and I will make your visitation peace, and your overseers justice.
^17
18
LA Non audietur ultra iniquitas in terra tua; vastitas et contritio in terminis tuis: et occupabit salus muros tuos, et portas tuas laudatio.
EN Iniquity shall no more be heard in your land, wasting nor destruction in your borders, and salvation shall possess your walls, and praise your gates.
^18
19
EN You shall no more have the sun for your light by day, neither shall the brightness of the moon enlighten you: but the Lord shall be unto you for an everlasting light, and your God for your glory.
^19
20
LA Non occidet ultra sol tuus, et luna tua non minuetur, quia erit tibi Dominus in lucem sempiternam, et complebuntur dies luctus tui.
EN Your sun shall go down no more, and your moon shall not decrease: for the Lord shall be unto you for an everlasting light, and the days of your mourning shall be ended.
^20
21
LA Populus autem tuus omnes justi; in perpetuum hæreditabunt terram: germen plantationis meæ, opus manus meæ ad glorificandum.
EN And your people shall be all just, they shall inherit the land for ever, the branch of my planting, the work of my hand to glorify me.
^21
22
LA Minimus erit in mille, et parvulus in gentem fortissimam. Ego Dominus in tempore ejus subito faciam istud.
EN The least shall become a thousand, and a little one a most strong nation: I the Lord will suddenly do this thing in its time.
